St. Joseph’s Day and the Return of the Swallows Celebration is a world-renowned tradition celebrating the annual return of the famous swallows to Capistrano. This tradition was started by Father O’Sullivan in the 1930’s at Mission San Juan Capistrano, historic California landmark and home of the swallows, and is carried each year on March 19th. The City of Fullerton will be celebrating the 27th anniversary of the annual “First Night Fullerton” on Monday, December 31, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 12 midnight. This popular family-oriented, alcohol-free event will take place in Downtown Fullerton on Harbor Blvd., Pomona Ave., and Wilshire Ave. The event is free to the public and has an estimated attendance of over 15,000 guests every year.

Plan to spend the day in Historic Downtown Silverado with a day of Fun,Food and Holiday music. Santa arrives at 10 am leading the annual Holiday Un-Parade. Photos with him from 10am-3:30pm. Come into town on the free wagon hayride. Do you holiday shopping choosing from the hand items from over 60 craft vendors. Food, music and wine tasting. Something for everybody.
Hundreds of luminarias will light the park’s pathways as strolling carolers and musicians fill the night air with seasonal music. The historical buildings will be aglow with Christmas lights and holiday decoration and will be staffed with docents to share each building’s history. Children can visit with Santa in the Arbor, enjoy crafts with Mrs. Claus, watch puppet shows in the Wagon Wheel Corral, and sit at a school desk while storytellers from OC Public Libraries spin holiday tales in the one-room El Toro Grammar School. Visitors will enjoy historic holiday radio shows as they tour the 1930s Bennett Ranch house and can listen to a Spanish guitarist in the 1863 Serrano Adobe. There will also be musical entertainment in the 1891 St. George’s Episcopal Mission. Hot chocolate, apple cider, popcorn and cookies will be available for purchase.
Ring in the holiday season with the best block party of the year. The first Friday each December the City of Laguna Beach and the Chamber of Commerce jointly sponsor Hospitality Night. Sing carols, mingle with neighbors, and watch Santa light the tree.
The 44th Annual Boat Parade of Lights will take place on December 7, 8, 14 and 15 and feature the theme “A Western Wonderland.” On each evening of the parade, OC Parks will host free family activities throughout Dana Point Harbor including games, crafts, live entertainment and selfies with Santa, all with a western twist. Festivities begin each day at 4:30 p.m. and the Boat Parade of Lights starts at 7:30 p.m.
The Mission will host Capistrano Lights 2018: a nightly tree lighting at 5:00 p.m. The Mission’s new nightly lighting and music program will be held from December 2 through January 6, 2019. Guests must be on the grounds before closing at 5 p.m. to enjoy the lighting experience. After the Mission closes, guests can take their complimentary downtown San Juan Capistrano map and discover the historic downtown district with plenty of holiday shopping, dining, and wine tasting all season long.
